Syndromes and a Century (Apichatpong Weerasethakul, 2006)

Inspired by Grasshopper Films' ongoing series, 10/10, in which they ask cinephiles to name their ten favourite films from the last ten years, I've listed mine. I've picked the film from each year that the memory of, or the thought of revisiting, makes me most excited. In square brackets is the film I chose as my definite #1 from that year at the time (originally by UK release dates, more recently by world premieres). I was quite interesting to see how much these diverge.

Syndromes and a Century // Apichatpong Weerasethakul     [Grizzly Man // Werner Herzog]
200000 Phantoms //Jean-Gabriel Périot     [The Assassination of Jesse James... // Andrew Dominik]
Synecdoche, New York // Charlie Kaufman     [There Will Be Blood // Paul Thomas Anderson]
Independencia // Raya Martin     [The White Ribbon // Michael Haneke]
Le Quattro Volte // Michelangelo Frammartino     [Mother // Bong Joon-ho]
We Need to Talk About Kevin // Lynne Ramsay     [Drive // Nicolas Winding Refn]
Holy Motors // Leos Carax     [Amour // Michael Haneke]
It's Such a Beautiful Day // Don Herzfeldt     [Upstream Colour // Shane Carruth]
Under the Skin // Jonathan Glazer     [Under the Skin // Jonathan Glazer]
Toponymy // Jonathan Perel     [The Assassin // Hou Hsiao-hsien]
